St. John’s Jesuit High School quiz bowl team concluded another remarkable season, qualifying for and competing at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) High School National Championship in Atlanta, Ga., for the fourth consecutive year. The Titans dominated local competition throughout the season, capturing first place in the Toledo Area Quiz Bowl League and finishing as runners-up in the league’s championship tournament. “This team was really special,” coach Brian Tittl, a history teacher at SJJ, said. “Seniors Josh Litzenberg and James Loomis have been standouts on the varsity team since their Freshman year. Their leadership in helping to build this program has been amazing to witness.”
Beyond its league success, the team finished second at the Anita Zuber Memorial Regional Tournament and the BCAN Brainiac Bowl, and 14th at the NAQT Ohio State Tournament. The team also reached the quarterfinals of the Bowling Green State University Brain Game, and earned a second-place finish at the season’s “Trash Tournament,” a competition focused on pop culture. Litzenberg ‘27 was named Toledo Area Quiz Bowl League Player of the Year in recognition of his outstanding performance throughout the season.
With a strong tradition of excellence and a fourth straight national appearance now in the books, the SJJ Quiz Bowl program continues to showcase the academic talent and competitive spirit of the school and its students.
