An Education Built for Middle School Boys

Frequent movement. Hands-on learning. The Academy at St. John’s Jesuit is designed for the way boys learn. Founded in 2004, the Academy is the first of its kind in Northwest Ohio. Our faculty and staff uphold the foundations of educational excellence in the Jesuit tradition – a tradition that is more than 450 years old. Our young students are nurtured as part of the Jesuit philosophy of cura personalis, or care for the entire person, which inspires our teachers to listen to students and to build relationships with them. Our goal is to prepare our students in mind, body and spirit so that they grow strong as individuals and develop a foundation for success in high school, in college, and in life. At St. John’s Jesuit Academy, we believe that the middle school years for boys are important as they head toward adulthood leaving childhood behind.

A Gurian Model School

There are only sixteen Gurian Model Schools in the U.S. and St. John’s Jesuit Academy is one of them. Faculty frequently use gender-based instruction strategies to achieve effective learning in an all-boys setting.

Meeting Students
Where They Are

The middle school years are a critical time for boys to begin taking responsibility for their learning and develop self-discipline that will last a lifetime. Students come to the Academy from a variety of grade schools. We understand and anticipate that curriculum must meet our students where they are. From this starting point, we work closely with families to identify student needs, and to customize an academic plan that will allow each Titan to make the transition and thrive. The Academy at St. John’s Jesuit is exceptionally positioned to offer students in grades six through eight a multitude of resources, accommodating those who need a higher level of academic rigor and those who need a higher level of support.

An Education
in the Jesuit Tradition

Although the  Academy operates separately from the high schoolstudent life is rooted in the same Ignatian spirituality.  The Academy is firmly committed to the mission of forming Men for Others. Theology classes, all-school Masses, and retreats are balanced with Christian service and community outreach. An array of enrichment classes challenge Titans to be open to growth and try new things such as wood working, cooking, and archery. The bonds of friendship begin through mentor group competitions or shared experiences on overnight field trips such as Space Camp, Washington DC, and the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Testimonial

“From day one, it was clear that the Academy is academically rigorous and well-rounded. But beyond the academics, the teachers and staff are creating an environment of thoughtful, caring and hard working young men. The Academy has proven to be flexible and nimble, not only with the issues brought on by the pandemic, but also in meeting the individual students’ needs. They saw where my son needed to be challenged and moved him to the appropriate class. They created an individual study program for him when a current class schedule did not work out. They provide after-school and weekend activities that are engaging and help further build friendships and community among the boys.”
