Students at SJJ have found ways to connect with others around the globe through the World as One Program despite the restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. Over the course of the 2020-21 school year, students in Spanish 5 as well as those who have joined the Global Ambassador Program, have been assigned pen pals and developed friendships with fellow high school students in countries such as Mexico, Spain, Colombia, India, France, and Italy. In addition to writing in another language, Titans have engaged in conversation with their pen pals through Zoom calls, making the most of valuable opportunities to practice what has been learned in the classroom. Mrs. Mallory Cabrera, World as One Program Director, has been happy with the progress the program has made in a year of challenges stating “The students have enjoyed getting to know others from around the world. They’ve really gained global perspective and have realized how connected we all are, regardless of distance.”
